Soyinka Accuses Emefiele Of Crimes Against Humanity With Naira Swap Policy

A Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka has accused governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, of reducing Nigeria into a state of despondency with his naira swap policy.

The CBN governor, according to him, has committed crimes against humanity.

Soyinka, speaking on the controversial policy during the Channels TV Roadmap 2023 series, said the policy struck at the heart of the subsisting survival principles, minimal needs and entitlements of ordinary people in the streets.

He also faulted President Muhammadu Buhari for allowing the CBN governor to subject Nigerians to endless suffering with the naira redesigned policy.

Soyinka also asked president elect Bola Tinubu, to revisit the growing agitation for the restructuring of the country, warning that the agitations would not stop.

According to Soyinka, new voices which are more powerful than those of his generation had joined the agitation.

“Emefiele has committed a crime against humanity, over and beyond even any electoral mago mago (foul play),” Soyinka said.

“He struck at the heart of the subsisting survival principles, minimal needs and entitlements of the ordinary people in the street.”

Speaking on he need for people-focused leadership, he explained that his agitations have always been born of a desire to interact with Nigerians in a state he referred to as civic dignity.

For the revered playwright, President Muhammadu Buhari allowed Emefiele to let Nigerians suffer.
