Six Killed, 79 Injured In Collision Of BRT Bus And Train In Lagos

A passenger train and a BRT bus, conveying some staff of Lagos State Government to the office on Thursday, have collided at PWD axis of the metropolis.

Seventy-one people were injured, 29 of them, critical.

The accident happened on Thursday morning, during rush hour by commuters.

witnesses said the brt bus was attempting to beat the train traffic signal at the Sogunle rail crossing, when the incoming train from Abeokuta crashed into it.

Reacting to the crash, the managing director of Nigerian Railway Corporation, Fidet Okihira said the BRT driver failed to stop at the level crossing, when the train approached the area.

He said this led to the crash of the train heading from Ijoko to Iddo, into the BRT bus.

Meanwhile, governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has declared three days of mourning for those who died in the BRT train accident.

The governor, who visited the victims at the hospital, also announced the suspension of all political campaigns and ordered half-day work for state workers, starting from Friday, beginning from 12pm, just as he equally ordered the flag to be flown at half-mast.

At the hospital, 42 people were found to have suffered moderate injuries, the number of those with severe injury where put at 29, eight with mild injury while six have been confirmed dead.
