Security Tightened in Ekiti Days to Governorship Poll

Security has been tightened in Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti state capital, after massive shootings by political thugs ahead of the governorship poll which shut down the town on Sunday.

The incident has caused anxiety across the state, ahead of the governorship poll, coming up on Saturday, June 18.

Security forces, including personnel of the Mobile Police Force, the Department of State Security, and the Nigeria Security And Civil Defense Commission had taken position at all the flash points in the capital.

The flash points include Tosin Aluko motor park, Atikankan, Old Garage, Ajibosun, Ijigbo, and Oja Oba.

The fighting by supporters of two major political parties started on Saturday at Itaji Ekiti during which one person was killed.

The fighting spreads to Ado Ekiti on Sunday,with political thugs shooting sporadically, forcing residents to stay at home.

The state police commissioner, Morounkeji Adesina says that security forces had restored order in Ado Ekiti, while investigating the shooting incident.
