Security Forces Intensify Search for Abducted Train Passengers in Edo

Security forces are still combing the forests in Igueben local government area of Edo State in search of passengers abducted at a train station in the state.

Those involved in the search, include soldiers, policemen, local vigilance groups, hunters and officials of the state security outfit.

Gunmen attacked the train station on Saturday, abducting passengers awaiting the arrival of the train.

About 31 persons, including two train station officials and passengers were taken away by the gunmen.

Spokesman of the state police command, Chidi Nwabuzor, said some of those abducted which had regained freedom, included a retired police officer, a woman with her one-year-old child, a three-year-old boy and a three-year-old girl.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian railway corporation has shut down Ekehen train station indefinitely, following security issue in the area.

Rockcity FM recalled that on March 28, 2022, terrorists planted explosive devices along Abuja-Kaduna rail tracks and kidnapped 63 passengers leaving eleven passengers dead.

the kidnapped victims were later released with some of them claiming that their families were made to pay a ransom of n100 million each to secure their release.

According to the victims, the terrorists collected the ransom in naira and US dollars but the federal government and its agents denied paying any ransom to the terrorists.
