Scores Drowned In Capsized Boats, While Fleeing Bandits’ Attacks

Scores of people, including children had drowned in two boats which capsized in Zamfara State.

They died while fleeing from attacks by terrorists hiding in Gando and Barikh Daji Forest which had been terrorizing communities in the Bunyukum Local Government Area.

The bandits had attacked Birnin Waje village in large number on Wednesday night, shooting sporadically.

Scores of the resident rushed to board a canoe with the terrorists in their pursuit to flee to a safer area.

In the process, the riders of the two overloaded boats, who could not withstood the extent of the gunshots by the terrorists, jumped into the waters, leaving passengers and the boat adrift in the river.

The boats later capsized, drowning more than 20 of the passengers, according to the villagers.
