Rainstorm Destroys Houses, Renders Families Homeless In Lagos And Ogun

336 families and 228 buildings were affected by wind and rainstorm that wrecked havoc in various communities in Lagos and Ogun state on may 1 and 15.

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) confirmed this last Monday.

The Lagos coordinator of the national emergency management agency, Ibrahim Farinloye, in a statement said there is no casualty or fatality during the rainstorm.

He listed the areas affected in Lagos as Agboyi one, Agboyi two, Agboyi three, and Odo-ogun communities in the Kosofe local government area of Lagos state.

Whereas about 130 houses and 228 families were affected.

However, Other areas affected in Lagos are 98 buildings in Agege, Ifako Ijaye, Ikola, Isale Aboru and Oke Isegun in the Alimosho local government area of Lagos.

Furthermore,  108 families affected including 13 electricity poles.

Also some houses were affected by rainstorm in Arepo community of the Obafemi Owode local government area of Ogun state.

The rainstorm which started around 2pm on Monday put landlords, residents and business owners in the community into confusion as roofs of structures including thus:

Shopping complexes, schools, a church, and a petrol station is being destroyed.

Farinoye urges members of the public to exercise restraint on their activities, especially during working hours.

He advised parents and schools not allow their children to play outside or sent on errands, hours before rainfall so as to protect them from the effect of falling objects.
