On Monday 14 August 2023, we said that popular cleric, Pastor Tunde Bakare, said that though the former Governor of the CBN, Godwin Emefiele, may have made wrong judgment calls in the management of Nigeria’s monetary policy, he must not be made a scapegoat, adding that considering the provisions of the CBN Act 2007, there is every possibility that Emefiele did not act without presidential authorisation.

Bakare stated that Emefiele should be prosecuted if found guilty of any crime, while noting that events before the 2023 presidential election pointed to the direction of political vendetta against Emefiele by President Bola Tinubu.

On Tuesday 15 August 2023, we said a former National Vice Chairman, North-west of the APC, Dr. Salihu Lukman lamented that the living conditions of Nigerians are getting worse while poverty has increased beyond any rational expectations under President Bola Tinubu, adding that most of the decisions taken by Tinubu since he assumed office are disturbing.

According to Lukman, the emergence of the immediate past Governor of Kano State, Dr. Abdulahi Ganduje as the National Chairman of the APC, sent a disturbing signal that President Bola Tinubu was weakly committed to fighting corruption.

On Thursday 17 August, 2023, we said a former Minister of Aviation, Osita Chidoka, said that the Nigerian Constitution and electoral laws should be amended to make any presidential candidate who does not have over 50 per cent of total votes cast in a general election unfit for office, while suggesting a runoffs for presidential polls where no candidate scores over 50 per cent of the total vote cast.

According to Chidoka, the 37% votes secured by President Bola Tinubu in the last presidential election put him in a serious minority that makes it difficult for him to push a big agenda.
