Power Outage In Abeokuta, Other Parts Of Ogun To Be Prolonged

Power outage in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, and other parts of the state, may be prolonged says the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC).

The power outage is crippling business activities and social lives across the city.

For the past one week, most parts of the city, except Oke Mosan, Olokuta, Obada Oko, Hilltop, had been without power supply, forcing business operators to depend solely on diesel, whose prices have continued to skyrocket.

For households, sourcing petrol which is in short supply, with rising prices has been a nightmare.

Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) which distributes electricity in the state, says the prolonged outage was beyond its control.

Business manager of Ijeun business hub of the company, Oluwasogo Olufayo gave this indication while appearing on a Rockcity 101.9FM programme ’Daybreak Show’ on Thursday morning.

He said the ongoing power outage was caused by a drastic drop in electricity supply received by his company from the generating plants, through the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).

According to the business manager, the power outage would continue until the TCN increased its allocation of electricity to the city.

For instance, Olufayo explained that the major substation at Kobape which was supplying an average of 30 megawatts of electricity daily, was receiving an allocation of four(4)  megawatts in the past weeks.

He also said the sub station at Eleweran which usually supplied eight megawatts to IBEDC in Abeokuta, now gets only three(3) megawatts daily.

According to IBEDC business manager, there was hardly any megawatts available after premium customers who paid high tariff in Abeokuta had been supplied with the dwindling allocation.
