Politicians Advised To Refrain From Vote-Buying

Politicians have been advised to avoid vote-buying while contesting for elective officers in Nigeria.

Osun State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Mutiu Agboke, gave the advice while receiving members of the state chapter of Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) in his office in Oshogbo.

According to Dr. Agboke, the flagrant abuse and use of money to induce and bastardize the electoral process was the major threat to the conduct of election in Nigeria.

He said it was also time to change the orientation of politicians to stop looking for officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to win in the elections.

The INEC resident commissioner urged IPAC to re-orientate its members on the duties and functions of political parties.

For now, Agboke said that IPAC was not doing enough to regulate the inadequacies of political parties.

Osun state IPAC chairman, Pastor Victor Akande said they visited the resident electoral commissioner to appreciate the electoral body and Agboke for their support for the committee.

To achieve that, do an orientation for party chairmen, secretaries and reel out your programmes and reveal your financial conditions to them.

It is not enough that you were elected but do a reorientation for political parties

I am going to visit each party secretariat one after the other. INEC is present at party primaries merely as observers.

Earlier in his address, the Osun IPAC chairman, Pastor Victor Akande revealed that the visit was to introduce the new IPAC executives.

He also stated that part of the visit was to appreciate INEC and Dr Agboke for their support for IPAC over the years.
