Police Give Ogun Cultists Deadline To Renounce Membership, Hand Over Arms

Police have issued a one month deadline to cultists in Ogun State, to renounce their membership of cult groups, and surrender all their arms and ammunition to the nearest police station.

The state police commissioner, Abiodun Mustapha, issued the directive, while parading seven suspected criminals,

including and rapists at his maiden news conference at the command headquarters, Eleweran in Abeokuta.

The police commissioner directs cultists who fail to renounce membership of their cult group and surrender their weapons, within the deadline,  to relocate from the state.

At the expiration of the deadline, Alamutu said there would be a total clampdown by  police on cultists who are perpetrating heinous crimes in the state.

According to him, police under his leadership was ready to take the battle to the doorstep of the cultists and their sponsors.

During the briefing, the commissioner paraded five suspected members of the aiye and eye cultist group arrested in the month of July.

One of the suspected cultists, Francis Okere was arrested on July 6 at Kemta, Abeokuta, while Saka Olawale, was picked up July 9 Atogijo

Also, other suspects Ogunkoya Olayinka, Awotungase Samson, and Abalo Ayomide were  arrested on  July 7 in Sagamu.

Alamutu, said the two were neutralized when detectives from Owode Egba division, in collaboration with local hunters,

engaged the kidnappers in a gun duel, at Fere Village, Owode-Egba, Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of the state.

According to him, the armed kidnappers, who were about six in number, suddenly emerged from the bush “and forcefully halted the victim’s car at gunpoint.”

Alamutu said, “the kidnappers opened his car door with intent to whisk him away, but he summoned courage by reversing his car with a high speed to flee the scene.”

He was said to have jumped out of his car and ran into a nearby bush.

“Consequently, detectives from Owode-Egba division and local hunters combed the bush for hours and eventually engaged the kidnappers and were able to neutralize two amongst them”.

The police boss added that the lifeless body of the kidnappers were deposited at OOUTH Sagamu morgue,

adding that efforts were in top gear to arrest the fleeing members of the gang.
