Police Ask Potentially Violent Persons To Leave Ogun Before And During 2023 Polls

Police have asked potential violent persons to stay away from Ogun State before, during and after the February 25, 2023 presidential polls.

The State Police Commissioner, Frank Mba, said the state would be too hot for such violent persons.

Mba issued the warning in Abeokuta the Ogun State Capital on Wednesday at a news conference organized by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for electoral observers and security agencies.

The police chief said the last Monday’s riot in Sagamu, Ogun State has strengthened the state police command to be stronger and better in responding to emergencies.

He assured people in the state that the police under his leadership would ensure that they cast their votes in a violent free atmosphere.

Mba adds that the police would maintain its political neutrality during the polls, while providing a level play field for all the political parties.

Meanwhile, The Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba, says the police are keeping tab on individuals whose utterances on the newly designed naira notes amounts to inciting people to riot.

The Police IG says those on the watch list included some of the state governors.

Baba stated this, to the state house correspondents at the end of the meeting of the council on Wednesday, presided over by President Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

He said that the police could not prosecute the affected governors because they enjoy constitutional immunity.

Also briefing the correspondents on the outcome of the meeting, Justice Minister, Abubakar Malami, said the National Security Council assured that the February 25 polls will hold as scheduled.

According to the Minister, the military and security agencies had indicated readiness to provide the necessary back up for the suscessful conduct of the polls.

Malami said the Chief of Defence Staff, the Service Chiefs and Heads of Security Agencies briefed the meeting on their preparedness for the polls.

He explained that the meeting was a follow-up to the meeting of the earlier of the Federal Executive Council and the Council of States which gave a go-ahead for the poll.
