PDP Names Replacement For Sacked Ebonyi Gov And Deputy

The PDP says it has submitted a list of its nominees to replace Governor Dave Umani and his deputy sacked by a federal high court on Tuesday for defecting from the PDP to the APC.

It nominated a member of the House of Representatives, Iduma Igariawey as the governor and Fred Udeogwu as the deputy governor.

PDP national chairman, Professor Iyorchia Ayu, says the names of nominees were sent to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), shortly after the ruling.

He asks the Ebonyi State chief judge to immediately swore them into office.

Governor Umahi had rejected the verdict which removed him from office, insisting that he remains the state governor.

Umahi also argued that courts lack the powers to sack a serving state governor, except by a Tribunal or through impeachment by the state house of assembly.

Justice Ekwo Inyang ordered the governor and his deputy to leave office, as well as 16 members of the state house of assembly who defected from the PDP to the APC.

The governor was optimistic that the appeal court will overturn the verdict, which he alleged was a jungle justice.

Meanwhile, INEC said it is yet to be served with the certified true copy of the verdict.

INEC spokesman, Festus Okoye said that the electoral body’s management would meet and take decision whenever the certified true copy of the judgment is received.
