Panic Returns to Abeokuta Over Renewed Cultists Clash

Panic has returned to the Obantoko axis of Abeokuta, following renewed reprisal attacks by cultist groups in the Ogun state capital.

Five persons have been gruesomely murdered in the past 26 days in the area, forcing residents, especially those residing off Fajol, to live in fear.

In the fresh attacks on Tuesday night, cultists, amidst sporadic shooting,  killed one person identified as Abiodun at Oloruntedo off Fajol bus stop.

The cultists broke his head with an object, causing his brain to spill on the ground. They also cut off his left hand, before leaving the area with residents remaining indoors out of fear.

Abiodun’s body was discovered on Wednesday morning and has been carted away by policemen who visited the area.

The Tuesday’s night attack was a follow up to a similar reprisal attack which occurred on July 8 when another person was killed by cultists in the same area.

During the July 8 attack, the cultists removed the intestines of their victim, cut off his two hands, and went away with them.

The reprisal attacks in the area started on June 23 when three persons were killed in Obantoko within three days.
