Ortom Gives Deadline To FG On Arming Of Benue Security Outfit
Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has given a month deadline to Federal Government, to approve the request of his administration to purchase AK-47 rifles for the state volunteer community guards.
At the expiration of the deadline, the governor says he will ask people of the state on the next step to take, to defend themselves against killer herders.
Ortom issued the deadline on Thursday, during the passing out parade of the second batch of the volunteer community guards at the IBB Square in Makurdi.
The Governor says the state government had applied to the relevant federal agencies for an approval to arm the members of the security outfit with ak-47 rifles, without any response.
Already, the governor says 1,500 members had been trained for the security outfit, promising that a total of 10,000 would be trained before the end of his tenure in may 2023.
