Ortom Alerts Of Siege Of Benue’s 23 Local Government Areas By Killer Herders

Outgoing Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, has cried out that killer herdsmen have laid a siege on 18 out of the state’s 23 local government areas.

Ortom raising the alarm on a television programme, said attacks by the killer herders had disrupted agricultural activities, and raised to over two million the population of people displaced in the state.

The Governor also said there had been a noticeable influx of the killer herders in the state since his party, the People Democratic Party (PDP), was defeated in the March 18 governorship poll.

Scores of people in the internally displaced persons camps in three local government areas had been killed in the fresh attacks.

“Now they are on a killing spree. Every day we have reports of killings and so on,” Mr Ortom said while shedding light on the killings of over 45 persons in some communities in the state.

The Benue governor, in the interview, lamented how insecurity had displaced over two million people in the state and disrupted agricultural activities.

“As I talk to you, 18 local governments out of the 23.

Meanwhile, the state wing of the Myetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) has asked President Buhari to fish out those behind the killings.

The State Secretary, Ibrahim Galma, condemning the attacks said that they are looking up to the incoming Tinubu administration to find solution to the crisis.

The herders association also said they are ready to co-operate with Governor-Elect Hyacinth Alia, to change the situation in the state.
