Ondo State Amotekun Corps has deployed some of its personnel to Ekiti State to assist in rescuing the students and teachers kidnapped by gunmen.

Chairman of the corps, Akogun Adeleye Adetunji, said Governor Lucky Ayedatiwa directed the deployment of 100 Amotekun personnel to join in the search for the students and their abductors in Ekiti State.

Gunmen had abducted six primary school pupils and three teachers after ambushing their school bus on Tuesday morning, hours after two monarchs were killed by gunmen in the state.

Ondo State Amotekun Corps Chairman speaking in Akure while parading suspected criminals arrested by his men said suspected kidnappers arrested in Ekiti State are still undergoing interrogation.

He asked hunters from outside the state to contact the relevant agencies before going into the forest to hunt for animals in the state.

Mr Adeleye reiterated the call for the creation of state police.

He affirmed that with state policing, the grassroots would be secured, and the personnel could carry sophisticated firearms to tackle armed bandits, among other criminal elements.

“With state policing, we will be able to go grassroots, and it will be easy for us to track down all these criminals in our society. So, the panacea to solving security breaches and problems is state policing.

“We should not forget that Amotekun is both conventional and unconventional security, but the issue of weapons, once the issue of state policing is approved, there would be no limitation to the equipment they can use in combating crimes,” stated Mr Adeleye.

David Babatunde Ogunsakin, Elesun of Esun-Ekiti, Olatunde Samuel Olushola, and Onimojo of Imojo-Ekiti were murdered in an ambush.
