Traditional worshippers in Ogun state have warned Muslim and Christian clerics to stay away from the installation and burial rites of traditional rulers in the state.
The traditional worshippers, under the auspices of the traditional worshippers association of Nigeria, say the new Obas and chiefs law of Ogun state 2021 is being misinterpreted in some quarters.
High chief Ifasola Opeodu, who spoke on behalf of the association told newsmen in Sagamu that they have nothing against the new law, but cautioned against it being misinterpreted.

According to him, there is no provision in the new law stipulating that traditional rulers shall be installed or buried by Muslim or Christian clerics.
He explained that section 2 of the law empowers traditional worshippers to perform customary burial rites on the bodies of late traditional rulers, irrespective of their religion.
The high chief however said they agree that the bodies of traditional rulers should not be mutilated of cannibalized in the burial process.
He also said that although the law allows families of the late traditional rulers to be involved in their burial, it insists that the burial must be in accordance with the customs and tradition.
