Ogun to Recruit More OgunTeach Teachers to Decongest Public Schools

Ogun state government has finalized plans to recruit more teachers under its Teaching Experience Acquisition Channel (OgunTeach) programme.

Governor Dapo Abiodun said between 1,000 and 1,500 will be recruited under the two-year intern teaching programme to further decongest classrooms in public schools in the state.

Abiodun, speaking while receiving OgunTeach intern teachers who paid him a thank-you visit at the governor’s office, Oke Mosan, Abeokuta, assured them that they will not be dumped at the end of their internship.

According to the governor, his administration shortlisted 5,000 intern teachers under the programme out of which 2,000 had been recruited and posted to public schools across the state.

The governor said more of those shortlisted will be recruited to reduce the existing ratio of one teacher to 500 students in the state’s public schools.

Also speaking, education, science and technology commissioner, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu commended the governor for the OgunTeach initiative, describing the process for selecting the interns as thorough and transparent.

Mr. Tosin Fatunbi who spoke on behalf of the interns applauded the governor for providing jobs for them after many years of being redundant and urged him to make them pensionable staff.
