Ogun To Host Refinery Project To Produce 400,000 Litre Of Petrol Daily

A US based firm, Gasoline Integrated International, has finalized plans to construct a $3 billion crude oil refinery at Tongeji Island in the Ipokia axis of Ogun State.

The proposed refinery, projected to produce 400,000 litres of petrol daily, is to be located on 800 hectares of land. Chairman of the company, Dr. Lukman Bolaji, said they had acquired a crude oil block at Tongeji Island for the refinery project. According to him, the project is scheduled for completion in 36 months.

The company chairman, who announced this, said 100,000 litres of petrol would be produced by the project in its first phase, graduating to 400,000 litres in the future.

Bolaji and other top officials of the company, led by the Olowu of Owu Kingdom, Oba Saka Matmilila, announced the project, during a courtesy call on Governor Dapo Abiodun at the governor’s office, Oke Mosan, Abeokuta.

The project, according to him, would create 10,000 direct jobs, adding that it would be based on a Chinese Technology, with participation by officials from Taiwan, US and Nigeria.

The chairman who said the take off of the project had been delayed by the COVID pandemic, also told the governor that 37 megawatts of electricity would be produced in the first phase and 110 megawatts later. The Olowu of Owu said the project would make Ogun State an oil producing state in the nearest future.

Governor Abiodun said the project was welcomed, as the state just lost a major refinery project to Lagos, adding that seventy percent of petroleum products in the country were being consumed in Ogun and Lagos states. The Governor told the investors that he would create a team which will liase with the company for future discussions to actualize the project.
