Ogun Teachers Still Awaiting Directive On Hijab Wearing To Schools

Academic Staff Union of Teachers (ASUS) in Ogun State has said that teachers in public schools are yet to receive instruction from the state government on the wearing of hijab by female Muslim students to classrooms.

The League of Alfas and Imams in Ogun State had directed female students in the state public schools, to start wearing the hijab on their uniforms, as from Monday, next week, when the schools resume classes for the second term academic session.

The state ASUS chairman, Akeem Lasisi, answering questions on the issue from a Rockcity FM correspondent, Busola Adegbite on Friday, said they are still awaiting the position of the state government on the directive of the League of Alfas and Imams.

Lasisi also asked the state government to further motivate teachers, as schools re-open, saying the motivation of teachers was a major determining factor  to success of students.

ASUS chairman urges teachers to discharge their duties to the best of their abilities, despite  the poor working conditions, as well as  the delayed payment of their salaries, and retirement benefits by the state government.

He assures that school administrations have put in place measures to ensure that academic activities begin immediately after resumption of classes.

The ASUS chairman said there would be much concentration on academic activities, especially as students in secondary schools would be writing their external examinations, including the West African Examination Council (WAEC), the Joint Admission Matriculation Examination (UTME) during the second academic session.
