Ogun River’s Water Level On The Rise As Oyan Dam Releases More Excess Water

The level of water in Ogun River in Abeokuta, has been on the rise in the past weeks, as the Ogun Oshun river basin authority released excess water from the  Oyan dam into the river.

A few days ago, the state environment commissioner, Ola Oresanya, asked residents living close to the river, not to panic over the release of excess water from the dam.

A rockcity fm correspondent, Tobi Ojeleye, who had been monitoring the level of the water in the river, says it is now close to the tip of the pillar of the lafenwa bridge in Abeokuta.

A close observation of some of the houses located on the bank of the river between Ago-Ika and Adedotun, as well as Ori Omi, Oke Sokori shows they are now being gradually submerged.

Also, water from the river has penetrated the football field at the Unity high school, close to Enugada.

Most of those residing in the affected houses told Rockcity FM that they were used to seasonal flooding of the area, and will not relocate elsewhere.

Some of then even said that water from the river at times flow into their rooms at night.
