Ogun pensioners give 14-Day deadline for the payment of entitlements

National union of pensioners have issued a fresh 14-day deadline to Ogun state government to honour its promised obligations within the stipulated period.

The 14-day deadline is contained in an open letter to Governor Dapo Abiodun issued by the state chapter of the union barely 24 hours after the organized labour also gave deadline to the state government to meet the demands of workers.

In the open letter signed by the state chairman,  Waheed Oloyede, the union said the deadline is  a follow-up to the four day deadline earlier issued last April over the unremitted contributory pension.

The pensioners threaten to embark on a mega protest if their demands are not met within the period of the deadline.

Some of the demands, according to him, include the immediate disbursement of the pensioners’ 150 months contributory pension, almost ten years of outstanding gratuities and the implementation of the consequential adjustment of the national minimum wage.

The pensioners asks the state government to emulate some of the other governors who were inaugurated in 2019, who had paid between 18 billion naira and 25 billion naira to clear the inherited pensions.

According to the pensioners, the Abiodun administration within three years in office had paid only 2 billion naira out of the outstanding 168 billion naira gratuities and pensions.

In the process, the pensioners say that many pensioners have died without collecting their entitlement.
