Ogun PDP Produces Two Candidates for 2023 Governorship Polls

The PDP has produced two candidates for the 2023 Ogun state governorship poll.

The two candidates are Honorable Ladi Adebutu and Chief Segun Sowunmi, both of them belonging to different factions of Ogun state PDP.

They were elected at parallel primaries conducted at separate venues on Wednesday in Abeokuta.

Another PDP governorship aspirant, Otunba Jimi Lawal, walked out with his agent and supporters out of the primaries venue at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL)

Jimi Lawal protesting against the alleged manipulation of the delegates list, never returned to the venue.

Another aspirant, Abiodun Abimbola, also staged a walk out in protest against the conduct of the primaries.

Earlier, crisis had rocked the opening of the primaries when the PDP electoral committee presented a list of delegates who will elect the candidate.

An agent of Jimi Lawal, Austin Onyikor protested that the list had been doctored and demanded the authentic list stamped by INEC.

Amidst the protest, sporadic gunshots were fired heating up the tense atmosphere at the venue.

After heated arguments on the integrity of the delegates list, Jimi Lawal and Abiodun Abimbola stormed out of the venue,ahead of the voting.

At the end of the primaries, chairman of the PDP electoral committee, Professor Akase Sokarr declared Adebutu as the winner.

According to Sokarr, Adebutu scored 714 out of a total of 716 votes cast at the disputed primaries.

Two votes were voided by the electoral committee.

Earlier in the day, Chief Segun Sowunmi has emerged as the candidates of a faction of Ogun state PDP for the 2023 governorship poll.

Sowunmi was elected at a parralel primaries held by the Kashamu faction of the PDP at Iwe Iroyin, Oke Ilewo Abeokuta on Wednesday.

Aspirants whose names were on the ballot were Segun Sowunmi, Ladi Adebutu, and Jimi Lawal.

Sowunmi scored 554 votes, while 30 votes were recorded for Jimi Lawal and 15 for Adebutu.
