Ogun/Osun River Basin Authority Begins Discharge Of Water From Oyan Dam Into Ogun River

Ogun/Osun River Basin Authority has started releasing excess water from the Oyan Dam located in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital into the Ogun River.

The discharge of the excess water into Ogun River aims at creating more space in the dam to accommodate more water in months ahead.

However, Managing Director of the authority, Otunba Olufemi Odumosu disclosed thus:

the discharge of excess water from the dam, was aimed at creating more space in the dam, to control likely flooding.

An average of three to five million cubic metres daily are to be discharged into the river this month and June.

In July, the water discharge may rise to the range of six to eight million cubic metres daily, and  seven to nine million cubic metres daily in September.

He also projected that the excess water discharge from the dam may also hover between nine to 11 million cubic metres in October.

According to Odumosu, the discharge of excess water from the dam is projected drop sharply to between three and five million cubic metres in November and December when the oyan dam would be closed for the year.
