Ogun Joins  Kaduna, Zamfara And Kogi Against Naira Swap At Supreme Court

Ogun state government has applied to the supreme court to join Kogi, Kwara and Zamfara State governments in challenging the implementation of the naira notes swap by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

The 13 ground of application filed by its counsel, Chief Afe Babalola, among others said the implementation of the policy has negatively affected the people nationwide, including Ogun state

The policy, according to the counsel, has left several people in Ogun State stranded, cash strapped and frustrated.

The application says this has led to the interruption of economic activities and causing a gradual economic downturn in the state

The state government notified the apex court in a motion filed ln February 13.

Its counsel further notified that its client would rely on all the process filed by Kogi, Kaduna and Zamfara States, and in addition to the affidavit in support of his application.

The supreme court last week ruled that the deadline for the swaping of the old N200, N500 and N1,000 notes be extended from February 10 to February 15.

The court also ruled that it would rule on the substative issues in the application filed by the three state governments on Wednesday

Rejecting the ruling, Justice Minister, Abubakar Malami, had said Federal Government would respect the ruling, but would challenge it.

The Nigeria governors forum at its last meeting had directed its members to direct their attorney generals to join Kaduna, Zamfara and Kogi state government in the suit before the apex court.
