Ogun Female Doctors Complain Of Heavy Workload, Say It Is Causing Mental Disorder

Female medical doctors in Ogun State have cried out over the effects of increasing workload in public hospitals on their health conditions.

The female doctors, under the auspices of Medical Workers Association of Nigeria, said the rising workload, following the increasing migration of health workers out of public hospitals is causing mental disorder among some of its members.

Also, it raised an alarm that some of the doctors are attempting suicide due to depression as a result of the workload.

President of the state chapter of the association, Doctor Olabisi Dedeke, made this known to a Rockcity FM correspondent, Busola Adegbite, on the sideline of the association’s annual general meeting and end of the year party held in Abeokuta.

Doctor Dedeke, who is a consultant pediatrician at the Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta, called on government to recruit more health workers to fill the vacancies created by those who had resigned and left the country.

She also said that there is an acute shortage of medical house officers in public hospitals across the state, due to the prolonged strike by lecturers which delayed the graduation of students from medical colleges.

Doctor Dedeke warns that the time is coming when patients will get to public hospitals and not attended to by any medical consultant.
