Ogun Court Jails Fulani Herder for Stealing 259 Cattle In Abeokuta

A magistrate court in Isabo, Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital, has sentenced a Fulani herder to seven years imprisonment for stealing 259 cows from other herders and cattle dealers.

The magistrate, Mrs Olajumoke Somefun gave the Fulani herder an option of 250,000 naira fine

The magistrate, in her ruling, said the option of fine would be activated only after he had restituted all the 259 cows he stole.

The convict, Abdullahi Adamu who was docked on fourteen count charges pleaded guilty to the crime.

The prosecutor, Assistant Superitendent of Police, Olakunle Shonibare had told the court that the convict stole the cows on September 12, 2021 from seven different herders and cattle dealers.

According to the prosecutor, the convict stole 185 live cows valued at 36 million naira from one Ojodu Olayiwola, 34 cows valued at 1.4 million naira belonging to Abayomi Somuyiwa, and 15 live cows valued at 1.5 million naira belonging to Funmilayo Ogunlana.

The convict also stole 12 live cows valued at 1.2 million naira belonging to Jimoh Salaudeen, five cows valued at 500,000 naira, belonging to Adekunle Adedapo, as well as 12 live cows valued at 1.2 million naira belonging To Jimoh Salaudeen.
