Poetry as a genre of literature has positive impact on the society as it is capable of correcting some societal ills while serving education and entertainment functions.
These were words of cross sections of writers and stakeholders in Ogun state at the 2022 world poetry day, organized in Abeokuta by the state chapter of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA).

Primary and secondary school pupils within Abeokuta metropolis, who read poems alongside creative writers and authors, converged on the Simeon Adebo library, Kuto, to rejuvenate the beauty and importance of poetry while using it to correct some societal ills.
The state chairman of ANA, Dr. Chris Omotosho explained that poems are stories that help in shaping the society and advised the populace to channel their focus to poetry for a healthier nation.
In a lecture, M.S.C. Okolo while emphasizing the importance of poetry, advised the three tiers of government to invest more in poets to help keep the writing culture alive.
