NPC Awaits Tinubu To Fix New Date For 2023 Census

National Population Commission (NPC) says it is ready for the conduct of the 2023 population and property census.

The three day exercise, scheduled to take off on May 3, has been postponed indefinitely by President Muhammadu Buhari, whose tenure ends on May 29.

With the last minute indefinite postponement, the commission says it will await the President-elect, after his inauguration on May 29, to fix a new date for the exercise.

The commission’s director of census, Dr. Isiaka Yahaya, addressing a news conference in Abuja on Sunday, said the agency would continue the process it has started for the exercise.

He explained that the agency would not have to begin all over again, when the President-elect gives his go-ahead for the exercise.

According to him, the commission was ready to go, having conducted the first and second test of the material that would be used for the census.

Yahaya also said the agency had conducted a trial census, as well as having enumeration area information of the 774 local government areas.
