Northern Elders Cry Out Over Massive Sale Of PVC In The North

Northern Elders Forum (NEF) has raised an alarm over the ongoing massive purchase of Permanent Voter Card (PVC) from registered voters in the north.

The forum said millions of people, especially women, as well as all political parties are participating in the illegal buying and selling of the PVC for a pittance.

According to the forum spokesman, Dr. Hakeem Baba Ahmed in a statement on Wednesday, a PVC was being purchased for as low as N2,000, due to the extreme poverty in the region.

Baba Ahmed said in some cases the PVC are collected after paying the pittance with a promise to process them for additional poverty alleviation payment, but the PVC never returned to the owners.

He alleged that the sale was being largely driven partly by some forces to reduce the voting strength of the north in the 2023 polls.
