Nigeria Ranked World’s Highest Consumers of Cannabis

Nigeria has been ranked as the world’s Highest consumers of cannabis.

Chairman of the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Retired Brigadier General Buba Marwa, puts the population of Nigeria’s drug consumers at about 10.5 million.

He says that with such a high consumption level, the drug prevalence in Nigeria is 14.4 per cent.

Marwa, speaking during the fortieth annual Olumide memorial lecture in Abuja, says that Nigeria’s Drug prevalence is far higher than the world’s average figure of 5.6 per cent.

He warns that the ugly trends if unchecked could become a huge albatross on the development of Nigeria in the nearest future

The NDLEA Chairman also he warned citizens against the use of a new psychoactive substance called Akuskura.
