The House of Representatives has resolved to appeal against the judgement of a court directing the Attorney General of the Federation to delete sub-section 12 of section 84 of the electoral act 2022.
The senate also on Wednesday resolved to challenge the court’s judgement.
Justice Evelyn An-Yadike of a federal high court sitting in Umuahia, issued the order in an application filed to challenge the clause.
During the Wednesday plenary, members of the house condemned both the judgement and haste by the attorney general of the federation to implement the order.

The speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila said the executive or its appointee lacks the constitutional powers to delete even a punctuation mark of any law enacted by the national assembly.
He said deleting anything in the law by the executive arms amounts to usurping the constitutional powers of the legislature to make laws.
Gbajabiamila said the house would petition the National Judicial Council on the conduct of the judge who issued the order, while asking the attorney general to withhold its implementation and allow appeal against it by the national assembly before effecting any change in the electoral act.
