National Assembly Challenges Court’s Verdict on Electoral Act 2022

The national assembly has asked an appeal court in Abuja to retain sub section 12 of section 84 of the electoral act 2022.

The assembly contends that a federal high court, Owerri, lacks the constitutional powers to order the attorney general of the federation to delete the sub section from the electoral act.

The national assembly made the submission in an application it filed to challenge the judgement of justice, Evelyn Anyadike, of a federal high court, Owerri, last march 18.

The 18-member legal team of the national assembly is challenging the judgement on five grounds.

The legal team urges the appellate court to determine the appeal before political parties will conduct primaries to nominate their candidates for the 2023 polls.
