May 29: DHQ Says Military Is On Top Alert

Defence Headquarters (DHQ) says military is on top alert to ensure that the May 29 hand over of power takes place without any unwanted occurrence.

Director of Defence Media Operation, Major General Musa Damadami, gave this indication on Thursday at a news briefing at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja.

He assured that the military and other security agencies would ensure that the May 29 inauguration of the new president takes place.

Last month, there was agitation in some quarters for the installation of an Interim National Government (ING).

The military and Department of State Service have warned those advocating the ING are attempting a coup against democracy.

Danmadami, while noting that elections has been concluded and a winner announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC), said there is no reasons why the inauguration of President-elect Bola Tinubu would not take place as far as the military is concerned.

He said “As far as internal security is concerned, the police still remain the lead agency. The armed forces and other security operatives are only playing a supportive role. I will reiterate that we are on standby to make sure that nothing unwanted happens.”

“The issue of threat to the security and stability of the country is addressed promptly. Elections have come and gone. For the presidential election, a winner has been announced.
