Man Trafficks Wife into Prostitution in Mali, Sells Son for 600,000 Naira

A 37-year-old man, Kingsley Essien has been arrested in Ogun state for trafficking his wife into prostitution in Mali.

Police are also holding him for selling his two-year-old son for 600,000 thousand naira.

His wife told Agbara police divisional headquarters that her husband, in October 2021, told her, he secured a job for her in Mali.

On arrival in Mali, the woman realised she had been sold into prostitution to a human trafficking cartel led by a woman for 1.4 million naira.

According to her, the cartel forced her into prostitution, but she managed to return to Nigeria with the assistance of the Nigerian embassy in Bamako, Mali.

The spokesman of the state police command, Superintendent Abimbola Oyeyemi said the woman on her return to Nigeria, discovered that her two-year-old boy left with her husband, was nowhere to be found and reported to the police.

During interrogation, the husband after his arrest told the police the boy was sold for 600,000 naira.
