Man Sets Himself Ablaze In Ondo

A fifty year old man, Ojo Ogundeji, has set himself ablaze in Ondo State. Ogundeji locked himself in a room in his father’s building in Oloruntedo axis of Ondo town. He then set the house and himself on fire.

Neighbours said he returned home from Lagos last December to spend the Christmas and New Year with his family.

They said the man was dejected that he was being mocked about his living and financial conditions but he was consoled by his family members.

Following cries from the room which he set ablaze, neighbours rushed into the house and rushed him to the state hospital, Ondo, where he was pronounced dead.

A witness, Mrs Sabaina Ogundeji, said:

“In the morning, Ojo set fire under the staircase of the house and said nobody should put it off. But with the help of people on the street, it was put off.

“In the evening, everybody was outside playing. So, Ojo went in and brought out his clothes and set them on fire. He later went inside and locked himself up in the room and set it on fire. It was his voice we heard when he was shouting. People ran there to force the door open and brought him out. But he later died in the hospital.”
