An Abeokuta High Court, in the Ogun State Capital, has sentenced a man in his fifties, to life imprisonment with hard labour, for having a carnal knowledge of a seven year old girl.

The convict, Lanso Ogundele was docked on two count charges, according to section 33 of the child rights law of Ogun State, 2006

He pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecution counsel, T.O Adeyemi, told the court that the accused sexually assaulted the girl sometime in september 2018, at Olugbo in the Odeda Local government Area.

According to the prosecutor, the accused who was a neighbour to the family of the child,  sent her on an errand to buy him a stick of cigarette near the house.

The prosecutor told the court that the accused lured the child on returning from the errand, into his room, and sexually abused her

He says that the child told her mother, when she returned to her parent’s apartment in the house, of the incident.

The parent then raised an alarm, leading to the report of the incident to the nearest police station, after which the accused was arrested

Justice Patricia Oduniyi in her judgement, said the prosection has proved its case beyond reasonable doubt, and pronounced him guilty pf the charges filed against him

The Judge then sentenced him to life imprisonment with hard Labour.
