Labour National Secretary Accuses Arabambi Of Blocking Ogun Candidates From 2023 Polls

National Secretary of the Labour Party, Farouq Umar, has accused the National Spokesman, Abayomi Arabambi of blocking the party’s candidates from contesting in the 2023 polls in Ogun state.

Umar in a statement on the party’s website on Sunday, accused Arabambi of refusing to upload the names of Ogun and Lagos States’  Labour candidates to the portal of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the polls.

According to him, Arabambi was given the task handling governorship and state houses of assembly candidates from Lagos and Ogun State.

The national secretary, however, said when the National Working Committee suspected his agenda, hired another lawyer who pursued the issue and got judgements in courts in Ogun and Lagos states to get candidates from both listed by INEC for the polls.

Umar alleged that Arabambi in attempts to frustrate the legal breakthrough, rushed to courts, including the supreme court, to challenge the judgement.

The crisis in Ogun State Labour Party has already split the state executive committee, leading to expulsion of the spokesman of the Peter Obi presidential campaign council, Doyin Okupe and 11 state executive committee members from the party. In retaliation, the Pro-Okupe faction suspended Arabambi and two members of the state executive committee.
