Former President Goodluck Jonathan has warned that Nigeria’s democracy is gradually sliding into fascism.
He asked Nigerians to remain vigilant or the democracy they cherish today will succumb to threats and intimidation and slide into fascism tomorrow.
The former president bared his mind on the state of the nation, during the 70th birthday celebration of the Catholic bishop of Sokoto diocese, Reverend Mathew Kukah in Abuja.
According to Jonathan, many Nigerians especially the youths, are becoming increasing disillusioned about Nigeria’s democracy and policy.
He however said that Nigerians must remain on the democratic path to effectively manage its diversity.
The former president also explained that democracy is not only about winning elections but accommodating others.
Ahead of the 2023 polls, Jonathan asked leaders at federal and state levels to accommodate different views.
