Hong Kong Arrests 11 Footballers For Match-Fixing Probe
Authorities in Hong Kong have arrested 11 footballers from the same team over allegations of match-fixing in a domestic league.
Independent commission against corruption (ICAC) on Monday detained 23 people in total.
These includes a coach, over alleged fixing of results in Hong Kong’s first and second division.
ICAC principal investigator, Kate Cheuk, reacting to the arrest in a press conference on Tuesday, said the alleged offences include thus:
Bribery, manipulating match results and illegal gambling.

According to her, the match-fixing group were paying each player up to about $10,000 ($1,200) for each game, depending on their impact.
The bribery deal requires footballers involved to either play passively so their team would lose to a weaker rival, or they sought to achieve a certain score that was unpopular and at high odds.
Kate said the group and some of the players then bet on these results in an illegally organised scheme for profits.
