Heavy Presence Of Security Forces In Abeokuta, Ogun Police Restricts Movement

There has been a heavy presence of security personnel (troops and mobile policemen) in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, hours to the Saturday February 25 Presidential and National Assembly polls.

The security forces were patrolling major roads in the city in a move to tighten their grip on the state ahead of the poll.

Some of the security forces had taken position at the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Also, residents besieged some of the few banks which opened in a last minute rush to withdraw money in case of any emergencies.

Some of them, who  who spoke to a Rockcity FM correspondent, Tobi Ojeleye, said  they came from as far as Ifo, Sagamu, Olorunda and other parts of the state  to withdraw money in Abeokuta.

Some of them who arrived the banks as early as 5:30am, could not gain access into the banking hall until 12pm.

Some of the banks like First Bank, Wema Bank, Sterling Bank, Access Bank paid between N5,000 and  N20,000 to customers on the counter.

Meanwhile, the supply of petrol has improved with the pump price ranging from N190 and N250 per litre.

Alo, the Ogun State police command has announced the restriction of both human and vehicular on roads and waterways in the state, on Saturday, for the purpose of the Presidential and National Assembly polls.

The restriction will start from the Friday midnight and end by 6 pm on Saturday.

The State Police Commissioner, Frank Mba in a statement asked people in the state to contact the joint operation room through the hotlines, if they noticed anything capable of disrupting the Saturday’s poll.

The hotlines to call, include 091-5399-3019; 090-1048-37, 0816-243-5473 and 091-3382-8725 and 090-1048-3704.

The commissioner warned that armed security aides attached to public office holders must not escort their principals to the polling units, and collation centres.

He also said that no state owned security outfit would be allowed to participate in the polls security duty.
