Gunmen Set Ablaze Home Of PDP Candidate In Saturday Poll In Imo

The country home of a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the Imo State House of Assembly, has been set on fire by gunmen.

The gunmen set his house and that of his father on fire in the early hours of Wednesday at Umu-Oparaochi village in the Okigwe Local Government Area.

The gunmen threw an improvised explosive device into the houses which ignited fire.

The candidate who was shocked by the incident thanked God that no casualty was recorded in the attack.

Before the presidential/National Assembly elections, it was gathered that the burning of houses, and killings, have become almost a daily occurrence in the Okigwe local government area. Mostly affected were candidates of political parties.

The PDP, state Publicity Secretary, Collins Opurozor, confirmed the incident s d: “It is part of the continued attack on our candidates, in Imo state, just like we have been saying it for the world to hear us. Many of our House of Representatives candidates were attacked, and Senators and their houses were burnt.”
