Governor Samuel Ortom Calls For Suspension Of May 2023 Census, Alleging A Hidden Agenda

Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has called for the suspension of the conduct of the national population and property census.

Backing his call is the Middle Belt Forum (MBF)

The enumeration exercise earlier shifted due to the 2023 polls, is scheduled to hold between may 3 and 5, this year.

The governor calling for the suspension of the exercise, while receiving a delegation of the MBF at the government house in Makurdi, alleged that there was a hidden agenda for holding the census in may.

According to the governor, many of people in Benue State are still in the internally displaced persons camps, due to attacks by killer herders, and would not be counted during the exercise.

In Benue State alone, the governor said in the last few days alone, over 131 persons were killed and others are in the hospital.”

The governor asks federal government to provide adequate security for the idps in benue state and elsewhere in the country, to return to their ancestral homes to participate in the exercise.
