Four to Die by Hanging in Osun for Murder and Armed Robbery

Osun State High Court has sentenced four persons to die by hanging for armed robbery.

The convicts, Hammed Rafiu (37), Rasidi Waidi (39), Kayode Sunday (29), and Owolabi Bashiru (54), were arraigned before the court on six count charges on October 23, 2019.

The charge sheet then then listed conspiracy, contrary to section 6(b), armed robbery, contrary to and punishable under section 1(1) and (2) (a) (b) of the Robbery and Firearms (special provisions) Act, Cap R11, Laws of Federation of Nigeria, Conspiracy to murder, contrary to section 324, murder contrary to and punishable under section 319, stealing contrary to and punishable under section 390(9) and kidnapping contrary to and punishable under section 364 of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Volume 2, Laws of Osun State of Nigeria, 2002.

They were convicted of killing one victor Akinbile, who traveled from Ikirun to Osogbo on November 26, 2018, to attend the inauguration of former governor Gboyega Oyetola.

The prosecutor told the court that Bashir mobilized three other convicts to invade the house where Akinbile slept after the event, demanded N10 million, but after pleading with them, transferred N5 million into the bank account of Hammed Rafiu.

The prosecutor said they also collected thousands of naira in cash from their victim, and drove him in his car to a spot at dominion camp at Iragbiji, where they set him and the car on fire.

Justice Jide Falola in his judgement, sentenced them to die by hanging, and the transfer of all cash found in their banks account to the family of their victim.
