Flood: Farmers Alert Of Further Rise In Food Prices
Farmers under the auspices of Small Holders Women Farmers Organization in Nigeria, have alerted of high cost of food in weeks to come due to flood.
The farmers said the massive flooding has created food shortage, and that prices would be going up.
The association president, Mary Afan, issued the alert at an event organized by the international bridge builders in Abuja.
Afan said that small scale farmers had lost everything to the flood which struck as they were about to start harvesting.
According to her, members have no seed for planting, while most of them had been displaced.
She called for an immediate intervention of federal government by waiving agriculture loans and debts incurred during the dry season farming.
