Federal Government has initiated a process for the review of the 44 year old Land Use Review Act enacted by the Obasanjo Military Regime.

The proposed review, according to Federal Government is due to frictions between it and State Governments on the land administration in the country.

A director in the Federal Ministry of works, Godwin Ityochimin made this known in Abuja at the annual meeting of the directors of lands in Federal and States Ministry of Land.

He explained that the 1978 act which has not been reviewed since it was introduced has been creating challenges in its administration.

According to him, the act gives State Governments many powers, which are being subjected to abuse in the process of land acquisition, thereby frustrating the execution of several projects of Federal Government.

The director said the proposed review of the act should determine the boundaries that are definable by the intent of those who drafted the law.
