FG Faults Ogun’s Planned Take Over Sango Ota-Abeokuta Expressway

Federal government has faulted a plan by the Ogun state government to take over the reconstruction of the Sango Ota-Abeokuta segment of the Lagos-Abeokuta expressway project.

Works and housing minister, Raji Fashola, reminds Ogun state government that the Sango Ota-Abeokuta expressway is a federal road.

Fashola, speaking on a television programme says that Ogun state government does not have the constitutional powers to take over the road.

Governor Dapo Abiodun during an inspection visit to the road at Ota on Sunday expressed concern over the deplorable condition of the road and its neglect by federal government.

The governor said that his administration will take over the reconstruction of the road if federal government fails to resume the reconstruction of the expressway.

The minister, however explained that the powers to administer federal roads is vested in him, according to the federal highway act.

The minister recalled that governor Abiodun approached him of the readiness of his administration to fix the expressway and he asked for the source of the fund to execute the project which he is still awaiting.
