Death Toll from Lassa Fever Hits 127 This Year

Lassa fever has so far killed 127 this year, according to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) in its latest update on the epidemic.

According to the centre, 3,542 suspected cases of Lassa fever had been recorded since January this year, out of which 681 tested positive.

It explains that 23 states have so far recorded one of the confirmed cases in 92 local government areas.

The centre identified Ondo state as the epicentre of the disease with 67 per cent of the confirmed cases, followed by Edo with 28 per cent and Bauchi with 15 per cent.

Most of the victims of the deadly disease are aged between 21 and 30 years
