Customs Uncovers Huge Stock Of Imported Cutlasses In Ogun Forests

Operatives of Nigerian Customs Service have stumbled on a large consignment of cutlasses smuggled into the country from Ghana, through the Ogun State border communities, ahead of the 2023 polls.

Comptroller of the federal operations unit for Zone ‘A’, Hussein Ejibunu, made this known at a news briefing in Ikeja, Lagos.

According to him, 3,116 pieces of the cutlasses were found abandoned in a hut inside a forest at Oja Odan, near Idiroko in the Yewa axis of Ogun State.

The comptroller explained that Customs operatives on a routine patrol along the Idiroko border stumbled on the abandoned hut at around 1 am.

He said that the importation of cutlasses into the country without the end users certificates approved by the National Security Adviser raised suspicious.
