Customs Says It Intercepts Police Van With Smuggled Rice In Ogun

Customs operatives have intercepted a police Hilux van with smuggled rice at Alamala in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital.

The vehicle mounted with siren, marked PF 1089 SPY, was carrying twenty seven 50 kilogramme of rice when it was intercepted.

Controller of Ogun one command of Nigeria Customs Service, Bamidele Makinde, announcing this at a news conference in Abeokuta, said the driver of the van abandoned it after sighting a customs patrol.

He explained that customs had reported the issue to the customs headquarters in Abuja for appropriate action.

The customs comptroller also said the command seized 5,240 bags of smuggled rice, 133 sacks and 181 wraps of marijuana, 18 units of vehicles, including 2018 model of range rover jeep within six weeks of taking over at the command.

Also, the command seized eight bales, 19 small Ghana must go bags and two sacks of used clothes, 88o cartons of frozen poultry products and 26,725 litres of petrol.

Meanwhile, Ogun state police command has denied that the Hilux van conveying smuggled rice seized by customs does not belong to the force.

The command spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi said the number plate PF 10889 SPY of the seized van was not a police number plate.

Oyeyemi said the command expect the customs command to have contacted it for confirmation before labelling it a police vehicle at a press conference.
